So, I was at a friend’s birthday barcrawl this last weekend, starting at the Tiki lounge. Throughout the evening I kept encountering women on the dancefloor who… for some reason believed that dancing is jiggling back and forth from one leg to the other while holding a beer and doing the exact same high-pitched ‘woo’ over and over again, and whose idea of a good conversation was talking about how they think their outfit is really cute or how their nails happened to match the color of my shirt.
I fear for the human race. What does it take to find someone with a bloody brain? An Opinion? The ability to construct an argument? Instead of this consumerist fad-driven shallowness that’s trying to copy the personality of what happens to be on this weeks’ Maxim?

Having left my car at the embassy (I had serious balance issues) Karl was nice enough to give me a ride to my place, where I happily crashed for… a total of 5 hours, at which time my internal clock reminded me why I hated it. Fine- still a bit tipsy, working on a hangover, the first thing I did was rehydrate as fast as possible, which seems to have mitigated the worst of it. Happy that I wasn’t feeling as crappy as I did before, I head off via public transportation to go collect my car in chilly, but sunny weather. As I finally got off the bus on Wightman and headed towards my car, I reached for my keys…

It’s spring. I can tell because my body refuses to get more than 5 hours of sleep, and I can’t help bouncing regardless of how sick I’ve been. I have energy again.

My mind has officially shut down for the day, and I am not at all surprised. I’ve gotten so used to the corporate bedtime that heading out until stupid-o-clock (in this case, 2AM) last night caused a terminal disruption in my sleep schedule. The fact that the night previously I’d gotten less than 5 hours as well certainly didn’t help. Oh well, I have no regrets. Salsa was good (if pricey and pretentious), and it was great seeing all the visitors at 80’s night, even though talking over the music was bloody difficult.

Good weekend. Good good weekend. It had everything necessary, a bit of romance, a bit of social, a bit of fire, a bit of ice, a bit of passion, a bit of drama, a bit of anger, a bit of betrayal, a bit of humor, a bit of mirth, a bit of zen, a bit of insomnia, a bit of apathy, a bit of productivity, a bit of happy, and a bit of sad.

With the potential of much boozing this upcoming weekend, I decided that resting in anticipation was a good idea. In fact, everyone should, now and then, take a bit of time to themselves to just kick back and relax, myself more so because I’ve noticed that I can’t even sit still at home and watch a movie without my hands beginning to twitch. So here’s what I did, in no particular order:

So, yesterday started out decent, I suppose. I wasted a few hours putzing around with Metroid Prime 2, then went into the kitchen to make Goop Soup (lovingly referred to as such because of it’s consistency, AdvInCooking to come), and idly contemplated going to help out Quack with her stealth move. feeling unusually social (or perhaps realizing that lonely isn’t something that fixes itself), I decided to show, and 1.5 hours later we not only had her stuff moved, put arranged in tasteful entertain-people fashion throughout her house. Which, incidentally, is really nice, has a gorgeous patio, and while the kitchen’s a bit small, the fridge is awesome!

And thus I take a moment to give a somewhat more substantive update about my life. First of all, Julie came over Saturday. In and of itself that was wonderful, but it was compounded (focused, amplified) by me using that as an excuse to get off my ass to finally finish cleaning the apartment (I even have curtains!). Casa de Krotscheck is now ready to receive guests, and possesses three twin-or-larger sleeping surfaces in addition to my own bed. I don’t actually have sheets for them yet, but I can pick those up when guests make reservations.

It’s fall. It took me an extra week after D’s post to finally watch my body adjust to the nature of the seasons. Yes, it’s Fall. It’s that time when everyone starts coming together, gathering harvest, family and friends around themselves in an attempt to prepare for winter. It’s a time reminiscent of apples and pears, nutmeg and cinnamon and hot mulled cider on a cool, starlit night. The world bursts into one last celebration of color in an attempt to fight off the snow…

Maintaining my social network takes a lot of effort. Ever since the July 4th Party, I’ve become acutely aware of how much time it takes to keep in touch with everyone, to keep up to date, and to maintain a reasonable level of social presence… especially with all the cool new people that I’ve since met. It’s rough, and it’s turning me into a social butterfly who’s really not deeply settled anywhere… and most of all, my work is suffering, as are my academic pursuits.
